The Neighborhood – History
The apartment is located right at Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River.
Embedded in the most desirable section of the city, you are surrounded by art, history, museums, fashion, and outstanding food. All important sights, such as the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi, and Palazzo Pitti are only a stone’s throw away.
Casa Ventura is located on the top floor of Palazzo Acciaiuoli, a medieval building dating back to the 1280’s. Towards the end of WWII, the part of the palazzo facing Ponte Vecchio was bombed by the Germans to prevent access to the river and then rebuilt from the ground up.
The hallway at the entrance of the building therefore features a modern and an ancient part of the palazzo. The building also has two entrances, one from Vicolo dell’Oro/Ponte Vecchio and one from Borgo Santissimi Apostoli, which is an ancient Florence street that takes its name from the church of Santi Apostoli.
It is positioned just outside the cerchio antico, the first walls of the city originally built by the Romans. The little street is rich in historical architecture, in large parts dating back to the 14th century, like the many palaces, which at that time replaced the tower houses of the wealthy Florentine merchant families. Today, it offers a welcome quieter side of the busy center, as well as many interesting stores and small museums. It also leads to the famous Via Tornabuoni, a dedication to the powerful Florentine families from the past and the present, hosting some of the most exquisite fashion stores, chic coffee shops and restaurants.
